The Flamingo Revolution in Albania: Anatomy of another Colour Revolution
by Biljana Vankovska
The article examines the anti-government protests in Albania through the lens of previous "colour revolutions" in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Drawing on the author's experiences in North Macedonia, it argues that genuine public grievances over corruption, environmental destruction, and inequality can become intertwined with broader geopolitical agendas. The protests against a luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are presented as a case study of this dynamic. Rather than dismissing public anger, the article questions who ultimately shapes protest movements, provides their organisational infrastructure, and benefits from the political outcomes they produce in the region.
